Greg Sherry

General Director/Professor

Greg has been involved with the IT Industry for 40 years and has worked in many aspects of the business in that time.

In his earlier years, Greg’s job functions were primarily technical as a hardware and network engineer with several leading technology companies within the UK.

In 1985, Greg formed his own company specialising in network installation and system integration and was one of the first authorised resellers for Novel network software in the UK.

From this company evolved one of the UK’s leading cabling organisations and the company was involved with many major projects in the UK and across Europe. Greg has worked for both the oldest retail and oldest merchant banks in the world as a consultant,  together with some of the largest companies in the Legal, Finance, Music and Entertainment Industries.

From the late 90’s, Greg started to focus on Industry standards and got involved with BICSI, the US based Telecommunications Association.

During his time with BICSI, Greg has worked in many committees, including being a contributor to the Data Centre standards committee, and is instrumental in growing BICSI across Europe. He has just recently

completed serving on his 3rd, 2 year appointment as the European Director serving on the BICSI Board of Directors in the US

Greg was responsible for Quality Control, on behalf of the client, for one of the world’s largest cable installation projects with more than 245,000 terminated cables across two buildings in London’s Canary Wharf district.

For the past 15 years Greg’s business has concentrated on the Data Centre market and in particular the implementation of installation standards and Energy Efficiency design best practices. He is one of only a handful of people approved by the US Department of Energy for their Data Centre Energy Practitioner programme as an Instructor and Efficiency Specialist.

Greg has been delivering Data Centre training for many years and was a trainer for the CDCDP classes, the BICSI Data Centre design course, and most recently, the training courses from DC Professional Development. He is the author of the world’s most widely taught data centre training course, Data Centre Design Awareness, and a contributing editor to several other courses.  Greg has delivered training across the globe on every populated continent, to more than 1000 students in some of the industries’ largest organisations. He is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading data centre design authorities.

Recent projects in Russia have included the design supervision and risk management of a 2Mw, Phase 2 build project for an International Colo provider. The review of design and operational procedures for a major Russian Telco. Audit and review of existing facility for International telco and subsequent report detailing future strategy for data centre operations. Audit of Russian DC for one of the world’s largest consultancies.

Greg has recently been appointed as a Professor at Plekhanov Russian University for Economics, and teaches a post graduate class in Data Centre design there.
